How we improved impact for an International NGO

We made a stand for the World Refugee Day event

COMMUNICATION CHALLENGE

There are 26.6 million refugees in the world today, which is more than the population of Australia. According to the UNHRC, as of 2022, this is the highest ever seen. Relief International is one of the many NGOs tackling this growing concern by delivering solutions for people in fragile settings. The NGO was founded in 1958, and in 2021 it provided 10.4m vital services with the help of over 5,000 staff and volunteers working in 16 countries.

Creating impact with exhibition stand design

We chose to help Relief International make a stand by helping it make its stand. Ordinarily, this would be an easy task for us at Zigma8, but with only 48 hours between our brief and the exhibition opening, our challenge would not be creating items for an exhibition stand, but rather, creating a synergy with our new partners so we can deliver to our usual high standards.

COMMUNICATION SOLUTION

After we promised help, we immediately met with the local decision-makers at Relief International to determine how we might improve upon their planned efforts. Naturally, we can deliver quality design and production for exhibitions and events, however, visitor engagement requires expertise in communications — something that comes naturally to us.

Getting improved results with expert marketing advice

We quickly met with Relief International to ensure that the Global NGO would be best prepared to present itself in the local setting. Our consultation meeting involved learning about the organization and its existing communications approach. During the meeting, we reviewed the global brand guidelines for the organization and discussed new communication methods to enhance engagement and increase involvement based on industry best practices. One way we achieved increased involvement was by defining a strategy for verbal communication and choosing keywords to better interact with the local visitors. We also used our expertise to develop new take-away material and gifts, helping continue the communications beyond the booth.

We made new suggestions for the booth location and layout to help enhance visitor interactions considering the brand position of Relief International as a global NGO. The result was an improved booth design that enticed passers-by. The booth design also helped better inform visitors of the current refugee situation, solutions offered by the NGO, and the various ways the visitor can support its efforts.

A digital advertising agency that gets engagement

Having a booth that effectively functions is pointless if there are no visitors. The NGO made announcements on their usual channels to help bring visitors, however, we knew that the usual communication to the usual audiences would have little impact. We are experts in creating engaging messages that reach targeted audiences, so we put this to good use for this occasion. We devised a digital communications strategy that helped reach a new and increased audience with greater engagement.

COMMUNICATION RESULT

We managed to form a successful synergy with the team at Relief International to help meet their needs in only 24 hours and with only 48 hours’ notice. The result was not only a happy client but a client that continues with an improved means to make a better impact.
